Contest a Ticket | Plead Not Guilty

If you want to contest a ticket and plead not guilty, you or your licensed attorney must request a trial date in person at The Municipal and Traffic Court of New Orleans. It's important to do this before the First Appearance Date listed on your ticket to avoid additional fees and penalties.

Here's a step-by-step guide:

1. Find the First Appearance Date at the bottom of your ticket.

2. Visit The Municipal and Traffic Court of New Orleans in person on or before this date.

3. Request a trial date to contest your ticket and plead not guilty.

If you don't take any action on your traffic ticket by the First Appearance Date, your information will be sent to the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles. This could lead to:

Suspension of your driver's license

Additional fees from the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles

Possible fees from your home state's motor vehicle department, if you're licensed in another state
